Domain Rating (DR) is a metric, popularised by Ahrefs, that scores a website's backlink profile strength on a scale of 0 to 100 — the higher the score, the stronger and more authoritative the site's backlink profile is estimated to be.
Domain Rating estimates how strong a website's overall backlink profile is by looking at the quantity and quality of other sites linking to it. It's calculated using a logarithmic scale, which is why the jump from DR 10 to DR 20 is much easier to achieve than the jump from DR 80 to DR 90 — each additional point gets harder to earn as the score climbs. DR is not a single universal standard. Different tools calculate their own version of it using their own backlink index and their own formula, so a site's DR in one tool won't necessarily match its score in another. It's best used as a relative comparison — is your site's authority trending up or down, and how does it compare to competitors — rather than as an absolute number with inherent meaning.
